And that’s it! Those are the Oscar nominees for 2015. Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel lead with 9 nominations each.

The list is quite strong overall. I was quite surprised at Ralph Fiennes’s snub for his brilliant work in The Grand Budapest Hotel. The Academy definitely got it wrong with this one.

Tough luck for some actors such as Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal for their work in Cake and Nightcrawler respectively, and of course to Lebanese talent Yasmine Hamadan and the Lebanese movie Ghadi.

Congrats to all the nominees. This will be a close one.

A predictions post will be up soon. So, stay tuned!

  1. […] In what is, I believe, the best acting performance by an actor this year, whether in a leading or supporting role, J.K. Simmons shines as a toughinstructor adamant on bringing out the very best of people — regardless of how vile and ruthless he has to be to achieve so. And this man is merciless. Simmons delivers a powerful, Oscar-worthy performance that is going has already been hailed as one of the decade’s best. He does justice to his character and manages to show every side of him: tough, vulnerable, vile, vengeful, and loving (in his own twisted way). The guy is demented, but Simmons portrays him with absolute brilliance. Already awarded a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, there is no doubt in my mind that come Oscar night, the 60 year-old actor will walk away with a trophy for Best Supporting Actor (see full list of nominees here).
